A Conscious Destination Paving the Way for the Next Level of Sustainability
Here, we live right in the middle of the green transition, and sustainability is often a way of life. A particularly successful initiative is the Västerbotten Experience method, which has taken our local organisations’ sustainability efforts to new heights. The initiative involves analysis, practical advice and follow-ups. The method adheres to the Global Sustainable Tourism Council's criteria for sustainable tourism, and has so far engaged over 100 businesses, 6 destination companies, and 10 municipalities. However, in this pursuit, we never settle – we continually strive to make Västerbotten an even more sustainable destination and place to live.

Granö Beckasin
Are you longing to get away, turn off your phone and truly unwind? At Granö Beckasin you can combine nature experiences with luxurious hotel standards. In their "bird nests" you wake up in a cabin perched high in the trees, overlooking the Ume River. The entire area, from accommodation to activities, is designed with care for nature. Located in central Skellefteå you will find The Wood Hotel by Elite, one of the world's tallest wooden buildings.The design of the building is a tribute to the woods surrounding Skellefteå and was awarded by The Guardian in 2021 “Best architecture”.
